Irish Craft Siopa is a unique little nook tucked away inside the ABC Campus in Drumcondra. With a vast array on offer in a cosy space, it’s very easy to while away some spare time picking up little bits and asking “who made this?” – which is exactly what makes this little siopa such a gem – you can find out exactly who made each item and where it came from. We popped into our next door neighbours in the Irish Craft Siopa to ask Maria Breslin a little bit about the shop.
How did the idea for the Irish Craft Siopa come about?
Handmade craft brings an original and unique element to a gift as each will have a different finish, originality, and a story to go with it. We felt there was a gap in the market for affordable, Irish-made crafts. Our talented crafters and makers needed to showcase their talent and this little space brings Irish Craft Siopa Collective together under one roof.
The Siopa is jam-packed with unique handmade gifts, what do you make personally for the shop, Maria? (We love your beeswax food wraps!)
Personally, I knit and sew, sharing the customer’s requests with fellow knitters including a range of baby knits, Aran hoodies, scarves, Celtic headbands, shawls etc. I also make jute hanging plant-holders, eco-market shoppers, and beeswax wraps – thanks for the request and kind words! (Maria’s beeswax food wraps are available for purchase in Small Changes)

Pack your lunch plastic-free! These gorgeous beeswax food wraps are a great solution to cling film or tin foil. They're made from cotton + beeswax, and are washable, reusable and compostable. They're also made by our crafty neighbour Maria @irishcraftsiopa and are available in Small Changes for €15 per pack 🙂
What other crafters can we find in the siopa?
You will find wonderful Crochet Beaded Jewellery by Monika; blankets hand knit by Aino; Kids organic jersey cotton wear by My2Trolls; vintage style soy candles, cards, pendants, and wax melts by Aoife at DesignsbyFreya, decoupage coasters, tissue boxes, plant pots trays by Clare with Un Nouveau Look; Cuddle Crochet Toys by Celia Anderson, Copper by Emmet Kopper Kreation; yoga bags, liberty & linen scarves/bows by Anne Sorah; Teatime collection brooches and retro headbands by Ali at A Little Idea; ceramics by Marie B Ceramics and so much more, you just have to come in and see for yourself!
There’s something for everyone of all ages in the store. Do you make things to order? Any strange requests?
Custom orders are welcome by all our crafters and posted worldwide. One of our latest requests was for a giraffe 🙂 All the crafts are made in Ireland and all the raw materials are bought in Ireland too.
Can you tell me your current favourite items in the shop and a little bit about who makes them?
Mini paintings by Paula Art especially Drumcondra Bridge, Poolbeg, and Irish Wildlife.
Do you give any craft classes or can you recommend any? (Or alternatively give us some crafty tips)
There are some classes to be announced by the end of August for decoupage with Erica. Our one-to-one sewing classes and knitting & crochet groups start early September. There’s so many classes on offer for all ages, we’ll have a new brochure coming soon, check in at the ABC reception!
There’s always a warm welcome at Irish Craft Siopa and it’s a lovely little spot to find a special gift. If you’re out and about in Drumcondra pop in for a browse and chat to Maria or Monika who can tell you all about the different makers.
