Juniper is a popular spice in Central European cuisine. In Germany, Austria and France, sauerkraut is seasoned using juniper. The dark purple berries can be recognized by its uniquely sweet flavour and a hint of pine needles. Juniper is popular in pickled blends and red wine marinades, but can also be used in desserts and jams.
Tip: For an intense aroma, crush the berries before use. Note: white dots may form on the surface due to the natural fruit sugar that is expelled.
