We've built up quite a portfolio of fabulous Irish products and built great relationships with small producers over the years. We'd love to platform more of you...and we now have the space! Our Drumcondra store is packed to the rafters so we've had to turn some of you away but we've plenty of room in Inchicore for you. We love plant based food/beauty products, and eco-friendly household products. If you're a café who've started making your own products - let us get it out there. The more local the better 💚

Why choose loose-leaf tea?

As it's not brewed in a teabag, when you steep loose-leaf tea, it has room for tea leaves to absorb water and expand as they infuse. This allows the water to flow through the leaves and extract a wide range of vitamins, minerals, flavours, and aromas from the leaves. You can also see what part of the tea plant you're drinking - buds, larger or smaller leaves, whole branches, fruit peices, or just leaves. You can't see all that inside a tea bag. Then of course there's the waste aspect - there's no bag so there's less waste. Many bags are sealed with glue or are bleached so they can't be composted...not to mention the nasties you'd be ingesting!

This #smallchangessunday we have the brilliant Evelyn from @veghuns telling us about a small change that turned out to be a pretty big change in so many ways 💚

Evelyn: "I thought going vegan would just be a small change in my diet. It turned out to be a major wake up call that my actions affect others whether I see it or not, and I can only choose whether that effect is positive or negative. 8 years later and being vegan has had an amazing impact on my carbon footprint, my health, my awareness, animals and other humans. My friends and family have gone vegan and we campaign together for human rights, animal rights and climate justice. I run @Veghuns with my two best friends and give talks about how an ecofeminist vegan revolution can change the world for the better. There’s still a lot of work to do but I think small steps make a big difference when they’re in the right direction." 🌱

THE RETURN OF....

Small Changes Sunday in which we ask YOU to share one of your small changes using the hashtag #smallchangessunday and tag us @smallchanges.ie to share your tips with others. We're delighted to have Diane @dianeoconnor9 from @thesustainablelifeschool as our first guest post, sharing both a change she's made and a recipe befitting of an Easter Sunday. Take it away, Diane:

"One of the changes I made this year was to stop buying packaged sweet treats & replace them with homemade chocolate energy balls. Between packaging, unsustainable palm oil, fair trade & more sugar than I wanted (sugar crashes make me VERY grumpy!) I find it much less stressful to make my own. Now that said, if someday you see me roaming around with a packet of biscuits in hand please don't throw your keepcup at me - like the ethos of The Sustainable Life School, I believe a sustainable lifestyle should be realistic for *you* the individual, so off days happen and you have to work within your means and circumstances.

TO THE RECIPE!

These energy balls are a mix of many recipes I've tried over the years and vary on any given day depending on what I have in the press. These ones in particular are appx (all my measures are approximate)
1 cup oats & 1 cup sunflower seeds ( blended together) ,
half cup desiccant coconut ,
1/4 cup Cacao powder all mixed up in a bowl
1 tablespoon of peanut butter mashed through with a fork.
1 tablespoon of coconut oil melted with 1 tablespoon of honey - vegans can swap out the honey for homemade date syrup (really easy just look it up!) - added in when melted and mix together with dry ingredients. It should be sticky but hold together if you roll it, add more wet or dry ingredients if needed. Then roll them around in desiccated coconut or cacao powder and into the fridge. If you don't have a blender leave out the sunflower seeds and make up the dry ingredients with oats and coconut. They are so quick , this took about 20 minutes and all the ingredients are available either loose or plastic free at Small Changes.
